At Jaakkoo-Taara, a work supervisor training program was organized in early 2024 in collaboration with the Tampere Adult Education Centre, conducted as an apprenticeship training. The aim was to train professionals in work supervision to effectively and safely guide new employees.
Dedicated support persons for new employees in each department
The training covered the role and legislation of a work supervisor, different learning styles, workplace safety, practical aspects of work supervision, interaction situations, feedback giving, and learning assessments. Supervisors selected the participants from their own departments. Going forward, each department will have one person who acts as a support and aid for new employees.
Participants completed preliminary tasks in which they examined the company’s onboarding practices and improved them based on what they learned during the training. They also worked on supervision plans for their respective departments.
The training was a positive and practical experience
Participants, such as Tatjana Susi and Jussi Heikkinen, found the training extremely useful. Susi emphasized that the training provided clear common rules and procedures for supervision, as well as comprehensive information on interaction skills and workplace safety. Heikkinen particularly valued the collaboration with different departments during the training and noted that it created uniform frameworks for training new employees.
The cooperation with the Tampere Adult Education Centre went smoothly from the start, and the training was practical and positive. Trainers Annaleena Ryömä and Juha Vainio, whose contributions we particularly wish to thank, led the sessions.
Concrete benefits from the training to daily work
The training has brought concrete changes to Jaakkoo-Taara’s daily work. Work supervisors have been able to test their knowledge in practice, and the training has supported and motivated them in their roles.
Some of the work supervisors will also participate in internal auditing training in the future. Although there are no immediate plans for a continuation of the work supervisor training program itself, it is possible to increase and expand the participants’ knowledge and skills as needed.
We thank all participants and partners for a successful training program!
