This summer, Jaakkoo-Taara hired twelve summer employees. One of them is Ronja Niemi, 25, who works in production as an assistant printer.
– I work morning and evening shifts as an assistant printer. I check the number of printed items and bring all the necessary materials. I take care of the printing materials and supervise the printing press’s operation. At the same time, I collect materials for the next job, Niemi says about her work.
Niemi started her job at the end of May and is working at Jaakkoo-Taara for the first time. She saw a job announcement from Safrent, a collaborator of Jaakkoo-Taara, and became interested.
– After being interviewed by Safrent, I got information about where I would work. I have enjoyed my time at Jaakkoo-Taara and have adapted to the job culture, Niemi says.
Niemi is studying for another field of work, and even though her future plans do not involve the printing field, she is happy with her summer job.
– Work is always work, but I have never had the feeling in the morning that ‘Oh no, I need to go to work.’ It’s always a pleasure to come here. At first, there were so many new things, but this work is mostly repetitive, so I have learned quickly, Niemi says.
The most challenging part of the job has been driving a forklift. Niemi didn’t have experience with that before, but when she started working at Jaakkoo-Taara, she received training. Even so, Niemi says that what she likes most about her job is Jaska, Jaakkoo-Taara’s automatic forklift, which transports ready orders independently.
Niemi also says that she enjoys working with colors.
– When processing colors, you get a can of ink, take out the previous color, wash the machine, and put a new color in its place. The previous color is taken to the shelf, and the same process is repeated for the next job. It’s a nice job, says Niemi.
Even though the job of an assistant printer does not correspond to the future profession Niemi is studying for, she would still like to come back to Jaakkoo-Taara for summer work.
Jaakkoo-Taara wants to help youth employment by hiring summer workers again this summer.
