Health and safety policy

At Jaakkoo-Taara Oy, occupational safety and a safe working environment are of paramount importance. We require all our employees and stakeholders to work safely and to consider others’ safety. We are committed to zero accidents and believe that all accidents can be avoided. We constantly monitor developments in occupational safety. Our metrics include the number of occupational accidents and resulting absences, as well as the number of safety observations. We regularly assess the hazards and risks of work tasks to eliminate or minimise the risk factors.

Our management is steadfastly committed to the continuous improvement of occupational safety by tracking the organisation’s occupational safety level and providing the resources necessary to sustain this improvement. We monitor and comply with the legislation governing our operations, as well as the requirements imposed by authorities and our partners. We intervene immediately in any non‑compliant activity in accordance with jointly established ground rules.

The department heads and trained work guides are responsible for day-to-day occupational safety. However, each employee is entitled and obliged to monitor their work environment and make observations to improve its safety. We encourage our personnel to engage in active and preventive safety work. We immediately investigate all accidents and safety observations, learn from them, and take corrective action without delay.

We guarantee our employees get an adequate induction, occupational safety and first-aid training, and personal protective equipment for safe work. We have regular fire drills, fire exit drills, and safety days. We also require our contractual partners to commit to the continuous improvement of occupational safety. We encourage stakeholders and visitors to submit safety observations at a low threshold.

We offer our employees comprehensive occupational health care and regularly evaluate their well-being. Occupational health and safety matters are continuously developed in collaboration between the employer and the personnel. The Occupational Safety Committee, which convenes four times a year, develops, monitors, and maintains practices that promote occupational health and safety.

The priority areas for occupational health and safety are set out in a two-year occupational safety action plan and an annual risk management plan. We operate in accordance with ISO 45001:2018, the Occupational Health and Safety standard, but have not yet received certification. Occupational safety and the well-being of our personnel are components of Jaakkoo-Taara’s Sustainability programme.
