Earth Day is celebrated worldwide in April. Jaakkoo-Taara participated in Bayer’s Earth Day event, which aimed to raise awareness about nature and the environment.
– In addition to promoting awareness, we highlighted our actions to support responsible practices. We also shared our plans, along with those of our partners, to reach the environmental goals we’ve set for ourselves, says Jaakkoo-Taara’s sales manager Jani Teikari.
Throughout the day, we explored the journey of wood, from the forest all the way to the customer’s packaging line. A key topic that emerged in many discussions was how local and close-to-home the entire process truly is.
– The majority of the wood raw material we use comes from within Finland’s borders. The paperboard mill is located only about 160 kilometers away, and Jaakkoo-Taara’s own production facility is just three kilometers from Bayer’s plant. Short transport distances are part of making a responsible choice, Teikari explains.
Earth Day was a great success and sparked positive interest among Bayer employees. During the event, 140 tree saplings were distributed and participants were asked to take part in an environmental act by planting their sapling.
– It was wonderful to be part of sharing environmental knowledge and to see how many people were genuinely interested in the journey of wood from the forest to the packaging line, says Teikari.
Jaakkoo-Taara’s Earth Day team included Ada Ojuva, Emmasofia Salminen, Irmeli Saarinen, Oskari Vuorio, and Jani Teikari. Jaakkoo-Taara thanks Bayer for the opportunity to collaborate on organizing Earth Day!
