Jaakkoo-Taara’s sustainability activities are measurable and transparent

High-quality packaging and responsible solutions go hand in hand at Jaakkoo-Taara. Sustainability is an important part of our everyday work, and it has been confirmed by certificates and external assessments, as well as clear, measurable goals.

A certified environmental system guides production

Our operations are based on an ISO 14001 certified environmental system, which guides continuous development in production, material selection and energy use. We identify environmental risks, set measurable goals and monitor their implementation regularly.

In practice, our goals include reducing emissions, improving energy efficiency and minimizing material loss. Waste is recycled efficiently and, where possible, utilized as new materials or energy.

We use PEFC and FSC certified raw materials and develop solutions that reduce the environmental impact of our products throughout their life cycle, for example through material efficiency and recyclability. Our goal is that all materials we use will be sustainably sourced in the future. Responsibility extends to our entire supply chain, as we require our key partners to adopt similar operating models.

Strong results in reducing emissions

Our climate work is concretely reflected in our results. In 2020, we set a goal to reduce Scope 2 emissions by 60 percent by 2025, and we achieved this goal ahead of schedule.

The actual change was also more significant than planned, as Scope 2 emissions decreased by 99.5 percent when we switched to fossil-free electricity and district heating. Our goal is to switch to 100% renewable energy by 2029.

We have also committed to the Science Based Targets initiative in 2025, according to which we will develop emission reduction measures throughout the value chain. The goal is to control Scope 1 emissions, virtually eliminate Scope 2 emissions and systematically reduce Scope 3 emissions together with partners.

International frameworks support development

Our sustainability work is supported by several international frameworks and assessments. We have been involved in the EcoVadis assessment for six years, and through it we receive regular, external insight into our development targets.

In 2025, we achieved the silver level, which means that the company’s sustainability level is better than 85 percent of all companies assessed by EcoVadis. We achieved our best scores in environmental, labor and human rights issues.

In the same year, we also joined the UN Global Compact initiative, whose ten principles guide our operations from the perspectives of human rights, working life, the environment and ethical practices. In this way, we strengthen our connection with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and develop our operations even more transparently.

Occupational safety and well-being at the center

Responsibility also means caring for people. We develop occupational safety and well-being in accordance with the ISO 45001 standard, and the goal is to prevent accidents and strengthen well-being in the long term.

Safety is visible in everyday life in concrete actions, such as safety walks, active observation and open discussion. Personnel participate in the development of a safety culture, which is made easy with the help of electronic tools.

Our goal is clear – zero accidents and a working environment where everyone can work safely. At the same time, we develop our operations in accordance with Lean thinking, so that the use of employee resources is efficient and unnecessary work is reduced.

Together towards a more sustainable future

At Jaakkoo-Taara, responsibility is built on actions that extend from production to partnerships and from personnel to customers. We constantly develop our operations, measure progress and set new goals.

For us, high-quality packaging and responsibility go hand in hand, and we are a reliable partner even for demanding industries.
