Jaakkoo-Taara hires summer workers every year for both production and office roles. This year, Siiri Nyholm, a student of financial administration, is completing her internship at Jaakkoo-Taara.
Nyholm’s career with Jaakkoo-Taara began in 2022 through a staffing agency.
– I started in production as a die-cutting reel operator. I was cutting labels and had the chance to also learn about the digital printing machine and the label winder. I switched between the two machines depending on the situation. The work was very diverse and varied — I constantly had opportunities to learn new things, Nyholm recalls.
Nyholm, who studies at Turku University of Applied Sciences, initially worked alongside her studies. When her program required a practical internship, she began to wonder whether Jaakkoo-Taara could be an option. She was already interested in the organization’s operations and hoped an internship there might be possible.
– I thought for a long time about whether I dared to ask for an internship, but I had enjoyed working at Jaakkoo-Taara so much that I really wanted to come back. I asked and got the green light, and now I’m here doing my internship,” Nyholm says happily.
Her experience in production has also proven valuable in her financial administration duties.
– Working in production has supported both my studies and my current internship. When you’ve seen how the processes work in practice, it’s much easier to understand things like invoicing. I didn’t have to start from scratch completely. Now that I’m doing my internship on the financial side, I’m getting much more out of it because I understand what’s being done; why, how, and for whom, Nyholm explains.
One of the best aspects of Jaakkoo-Taara, according to Nyholm, has been the work atmosphere and colleagues. After the internship, she will continue working at Jaakkoo-Taara alongside her studies.
– I came to work, but I got so much more. I was given opportunities, I learned new things, and I found a wonderful team and work atmosphere.
The diverse experience at Jaakkoo-Taara is also beneficial for Nyholm’s future career goals.
– I’m interested in industrial management — how processes work, how the value of a product is formed, how profitability is assessed, and how the invoicing process works. I want to be good at my job and ensure that my work benefits others as well. One day at a time, there’s still a lot to learn.
